Most people have plenty of friends and family to add to their social media accounts but it can be time consuming to add them over and over again for a new account. Learn how to find contacts on Instagram and you’ll have an easy way to sync up information from your contact list and Facebook, too. Contact syncing is the simple option that allows Instagram to recommend accounts for you to potentially follow based on who is in your contact list.

How to sync your contact list on Instagram

To turn on contact syncing, follow these steps from your profile when you have your account open:

  1. Tap the hamburger menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Contacts Syncing.
  5. Next to Connect contacts, move the slider to the right until it turns blue. Note: If it’s already blue, you’ve set this feature up previously and Instagram should already be making connection suggestions for you.

When you set this up, be aware that your contact list will be stored on Instagram’s servers. The company will routinely sync the list and store updates there for you; the list it shows you will be private and for your eyes only.

How to find Facebook friends on Instagram

You can also use Contact Syncing on Instagram to locate friends on Facebook. To do this, however, you need to first connect your Facebook and Instagram accounts so that Instagram can properly sync information between the two social media accounts.

Follow these steps from your profile once you have Instagram open:

  1. Tap the hamburger menu.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Accounts Center.

  4. Tap Add Facebook account.

Note: If you have multiple Facebook accounts, you might see a screen asking you to ‘Continue as’ that account. Tap Continue as (account). 5. When you see the following screen showing both your Instagram and Facebook accounts, tap Continue.

    6. Tap Yes, finish setup.

When Accounts Center is set up, you will be prompted to share posts and stories and sync your profile photo. Simply follow the prompts by telling Instagram to continue or tapping “not now” if you don’t want a feature. Under the Accounts Center section, you will see both profiles.
