Online dating isn’t easy even on sites that are simple to use, like Tinder. Sometimes you find a match made in heaven, other times you find yourself wishing you had never learned how to swipe right. Whatever your situation, knowing how to unmatch on Tinder can save you a lot of time and aggravation.

Unmatching is a permanent solution, so just be sure you truly want nothing to do with the other person before you remove them from your match list.

Tinder: How to unmatch from someone

When you decide you need to unmatch from someone for any reason, you can do it using the Safety Toolkit that Tinder provides. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Tinder.

  2. Tap the chat icon and open a chat with the person you’d like to unmatch.

    3. In the upper left corner of the chat window, look for a blue shield (iOS) or ellipses (Android). Tap the version you have.
    4. The Safety Toolkit will open. Tap Unmatch From (person).
    5. A pop-up warning message will appear. If you still want to unmatch, tap Yes, Unmatch.

Find People online, lookup contact info, phone numbers, emails and more!

Once you have unmatched from someone, your name will automatically be removed from that person’s match list. Their name, in turn, will be removed from your match list. Neither of you will see one another in feeds or be able to message each other. That person also won’t be notified that you’ve unmatched from them.

Knowing how to unmatch on Tinder is just as important as knowing how to match. Not everyone is a good fit; using this option is a quick way to untangle yourself from a connection you’re really not into.
