The founders of BeenVerified relied heavily on the online freelance community throughout their careers. They were often frustrated by freelancers, software developers and designers that misrepresented themselves and their capabilities during the hiring process. Unfortunately, the Internet was not built with a way for an individual to prove who they are (identity) and have accomplished what they claim (education, skills certifications, etc.). So they built it.

Joshua Levy — Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer

Josh combines his passion for Web technology and experience in finance to help the team assess BeenVerified from not only a qualitative, but quantitative perspective. Having spent the dot com boom as a founding pioneer of an online video and social networking site, he brings with him an unparalleled perspicacity for the fast-paced world of start-ups. His former venture was one of the first to implement online video advertising where he successfully arbitrated deals with corporations such as Yahoo, Netzero, and BIC. Since the inception of BeenVerified, Josh has distinguished himself as a thought leader in online identity and credential verification. You can find him quoted in numerous publications or an invitee at various speaking engagements across the country, including a presentation to the board of Online Child Safety at Harvard University's Birkman Law Center.

Ross Cohen — Co-Founder, VP Business Development

Ross brings over 10 years of experience building and operating profitable Web-based properties. He was one of the first entrepreneurs to recognize the opportunity that the overseas outsourcing community offered as a viable cost-effective work force. Ross has spent his career building one of the largest web-based research businesses that employs over 200 freelance writers located throughout the world. From his vast work experience, he realized that finding talent that was honest about their credentials was the largest hurdle for small businesses to overcome when working with the freelance market.

Jason Amster — Chief Technology Officer

Jason has been developing secure, scalable web applications for over 12 years. He was previously the head of interactive development at Redken & Pureology, subsidiaries of L'Oreal. Jason has launched several sites for a conglomerate of global corporate brands, including the Webby Award winning RedkenColor.com. As the Interactive Marketing Manager, Jason ran multiple online advertising and search engine marketing campaigns. He oversaw a team of developers and designers to create a host of web-based productivity tools for their internal corporate staff and sales force. His skills and expertise can be found in almost all programming languages such as .NET, ColdFusion, Java, PHP and of course the wonderful world of Ruby.

Danny Canarick — Director of Communications

Danny started his career as a New Business Development Officer at Ruder Finn Public Relations, New York's largest privately owned PR agency. Before joining BeenVerified, he was marketing manager at Big Fuel Communications, a cutting-edge brand development agency. Danny has a BA in Business Administration from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. After graduating, he spent two years in Peace Corps Kenya's small enterprise development and information technology program.

Patrick Tulskie — Software Engineer

Patrick has been working in a split web development/infrastructure role for the past 4 years both at Reader's Digest and in private consulting. Recently he has moved to full time Ruby on Rails development. He specializes in technologies that deal with social networks and integration with their APIs. He has built several applications that utilize the Twitter and Identi.ca APIs in order to more easily classify people on their respective networks. Patrick is a Pace University graduate with his B.S. in Computer Science and is rapidly nearing completion of his M.S. in Software Engineering. Patrick has experience in an extensive list of programming languages, including Java, .Net, PHP, and Python, but his real love is Ruby.

Jerry Richardson — Software Engineer

Jerry has been developing web applications commercially since 1997, creating and marketing sites in the aviation and promotional product industries, including leftse.at, a social logbook for pilots and iBlinkink, an online custom apparel merchant. Jerry is Chief Technologist at Disruptive Ventures, Inc., an Indiana-based developer of data-driven web applications and co-founder of the South Bend Ruby Users Group.

Daniel Levy — Chief Financial Officer, Board of Advisors

Daniel Levy is a Certified Public Accountant with qualifications in business development, general operations, and P&L management. Dan began his public accounting career at PriceWaterhouse and has attained more than 25+ years experience in business. He currently serves as CFO of a leading investment and financial services company for the orthopedic industry. He has served as the CFO of a major franchise company and two prominent media companies. Additionally, he has been involved in two Public Offerings, licensing & distribution agreements, and numerous mergers and acquisitions.

Bill Washburn, Ph.D. — Board of Advisors

William (Bill) is the Executive Director at OpenID Foundation and Chair of the Board at XDI.org. Bill arrived on the Internet officially as the first Executive Director of the Commercial Internet Xchange (CIX) Association – the non-profit global trade organization of Internet service providers (ISPs) in the early 1990s. CIX and it’s leading members successfully led the effort to allow commercial and private use of the Internet.
